Video Book Club: A Sense of Urgency June 29 2010
If you’re moving too fast to read this post, then you probably need to take a minute and a half to watch this week’s Video Book Club clip on John Kotter’s A Sense of Urgency. In the clip, I mention his distinction between real urgency and false urgency. I also share my big take away from the book not it’s not just about the facts, it’s about something else.

I read the book about a year ago and found it interesting and useful. Interesting because he borrows from the John Wooden aphorism of "Be fast but don't hurry". Useful because it's another example of knowing and setting the correct priorities and not to be busy for busy sake. It's a trap to feel we're being useful just because we're busy. I admire those that get a lot done but seem to have time on their hands. Conversely, I watch those that are constantly moving with a "sense of urgency" but don't seem to produce or get much accomplished.
Love Kotter's work. Good take on it.
